John Augustine Roman, born on July 28, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025 at the age of 95, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Wyndmoor, PA. For 73 years, he was the beloved husband of Patricia Ann Roman (Smith), who survives him and with whom he built a lifetime of cherished memories. His five children also survive him: Janet Reynolds, Jack Roman (Regina), David Roman (Allison), Dianne Austin (Tim), and Brian Roman. He is predeceased by his father Alberilgio Roman and Gisella (Colussi) Roman.
He was a proud Army Veteran serving from 1951 to 1956. Veteran Life Member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (which was great banter for the family). He attended Dobbins High School where he played football and became a mechanic.
He was a well-known fixture of Chestnut Hill. John spent over 50 years as the proud owner of John Roman’s Texaco, in Chestnut Hill. He not only repaired cars and plowed snow for his customers, he also gave out balloons to every child who would have one. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, John’s life was defined by hard work, generosity, and an unwavering love for his family. John was affectionately known as Dad, Johnny, Grampop, GGPop, and Uncle Johnny.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral mass on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Our Mother of Consolation Catholic Church, 9 East Chestnut Hill Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118 at 11:00 AM. Burial with military honors will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM Friday morning in church.
