In the second week of action in the women's college summer league, one of two teams remaining undefeated was the Cyber Pink alumni team that includes four Chestnut Hill College grads. The other unbeaten club, Purple Haze, is mostly made up of current West Chester University players.

Chestnut Hill College's Team Red Fire and Jefferson University's Team Black both emerged from week two with records of 2-2.

On Tuesday, two of the league's three previously undefeated teams squared off, and Team Sky Blue (Holy Family) lost a barnburner, 70-67, to Team Purple Haze, which received a dozen points from Plymouth Whitemarsh grad Anna McTamney.

Purple Haze remained undefeated along with alumni team Cyber Pink, which cruised past Team Maroon (Arcadia University), 67-44. Pink received many of its points (37) from post player Taylor Hamm, the winners had former Chestnut Hill College guards Lauren Crim and Cassie Spratt contribute five and two points, respectively.

Maroon, which went 1-7 in the league in 2023, had picked up an early win in the first week of the 2024 campaign, topping Team Sunburst. Last Tuesday Sunburst (a Division III group like Acadia University's Maroon team) perked up and provided unexpectedly stiff resistance to Chestnut Hill's Team Red Fire.

After three close quarters, Red headed into the final frame with a modest 44-40 lead, then pulled away a bit to prevail, 58-49. The summer Griffins spread their scoring around among eight different players, with 12 points apiece coming from junior Sara Tamoun and freshman Tikyra Miller.

The league's second alumni team, added just this year, is called Team Lime Citrus, and they slipped to 1-2 last Tuesday with a 68-51 setback to Jefferson's Team Black. Alex Naessens, a GA graduate, posted four points in the losing cause, while black was paced by Sam Yencha, with 18 points, and fellow senior Emma Kuczynski, with 13.

Germantown Academy alum Abby Marino deposited two three-pointers as part of a team-high 15-point effort to help Orange Citrus, a band of Division III players, overcome Royal Blue, which includes seven players from Division II Goldey Beacom College. Both ball clubs had been 0-2 going into the game.

Marino did not score on Thursday, but she and her Division III colleagues posted another impressive win over a DII outfit, as Orange knocked off Jefferson Black, 47-43. Yencha led the Jefferson team with 13 points on the night, and both ballclubs were 2-2 at week's end.

On another court, the current CHC players on Team Red Fire faced some of their own alumni in a 72-58 loss to Cyber Pink. Pink bolted to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and was ahead 21-6 early in the second. After that, six points from rising sophomore Caraline Herb helped CHC Red narrow the gap to seven points late in the period (35-28), but Pink led by nine at the half (40-31). The current Griffins got back within six late in the third period (52-46), but slipped back to trail 56-48 at the three-quarter mark.

CHC alum Lauren Crim scored all but two of her nine points in the second half to help keep Red Fire at bay. Cyber Pink pulled away in the fourth frame to win 72-58 as CHC grad and Penn Charter alum Kait Carter finished with 14 points. Miller, the incoming Chestnut Hill freshman, turned in another impressive performance, leading the Red squad with 17 points.

West Chester's Purple Haze, lacking P-W grad McTamney on Thursday, remained unbeaten at 4-0 while their opponent, Division III Team Sunburst, fell to 0-4. Given that, the final score was surprisingly close, 59-53.

Another Division II squad, Holy Family's Team Sky Blue, rose to 3-1 as it cruised past Team Royal Blue, 80-52. The highlight was the best three-point field goal shooting in the league thus far; rising senior Jessica Riepe funneled in eight three's.
