Northwest screenings: Outdoor movies

Posted

Who needs a reclining chair in a darkened, air-conditioned theater in the middle of a broiling summer when you can have free movies under the stars?

If that’s how you feel about it, then pull up a lawn chair because outdoor movie showings are kinda plentiful this summer in the Northwest.

“Creed” will be showing at 6 p.m., Friday, July 19, at Awbury Recreation Center, 6101 Ardleigh St., and there’s “The Lion King” at sunset Saturday, July 20, at Vernon Park in Germantown, a screening that includes free animal masks for the kids. Next week, New Courtland / Germantown Home in Mt. Airy will host an outdoor screening of “The Holdovers,” at 8 p.m., July 26, featuring the neighborhood’s Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and the Chestnut Hill Community Association will kick off its “Movies Under the Stars” series Aug. 2 with an 8 p.m. screening of “Paddington” at the Water Tower Recreation Center.
